Wired Walts Worms
This trout delicatessen is made on a Firehole jig hook and capped with a tungsten bead. This nymph sinks on-demand and presents like a crispy creme trout snack. Turn over rocks on the river and notice how many of the mayflies and stoneflies are lighter colored, like this Wired Walt’s Bug, Oyster/Pink. And for future reference, anything described as Oyster/Pink will attract major fish, big time.
A combination of Shetland Spindrift yarn with a contrasting Metallic Wire from Semperfli and a fluorescent thread collar make the Wired Walts Worm's a signature fly pattern designed by Dave McKenna.
The Wired Walts Worm is a proven euro-style nymph for all trout rivers. The tungsten bead and jig style hooks are perfect for faster water, pocket water, and any water the fly needs to achieve depth without hooking on the bottom. The Wired Walts Worm is ideal for dry-dropper scenarios and any depth of nymphing. Having this fly in all 3 color and size variations will ensure a match on the river.
The Wired Walts is brilliantly versatile and imitates several aquatic insects depending on size and color. The Green Wired Walts is the perfect caddis larva under almost all rocks in most trout rivers. The Oyster/Pink Wired Walts imitates both lighter-colored stonefly nymphs and October caddis larva. The Copper is even more versatile imitating tan caddis larva, crane fly larvae and numerous mayfly and stonefly nymphs.
Our first summer bringing this proven fly from the East Coast to Western Rivers in Colorado was a revelation. Every river we fished it crushed, it was almost embarrassing.
